This Privacy Policy applies to the mobile application "Chinese Reader: Learn Mandarin," developed by Arzensoft and available under the same name on Google Play and the Apple App Store, and the Bao Reader website at baoreader.com. In this policy, "Bao Reader" refers to the app and website, and "we", "us" and "our" refer to Arzensoft, which operates these services from Taiwan. We provide Chinese reading and vocabulary practice tools to users worldwide.

Account and learning information
When you sign in, our authentication service provider processes your sign-in information. We receive account identifiers and profile information, such as your name and email address, from your sign-in provider.
We store your reading preferences, bookmarks, reading activity, personal vocabulary collections, flashcard settings and review progress to provide and synchronize your learning experience. Some preferences and learning data are also stored on your device or in your browser.
Feedback and AI replies
You can submit feedback without signing in or providing an email address. If you choose to provide an email, we use it to contact you about your feedback. Messages may contain personal information if you include it yourself.
We store feedback conversations, including your messages, automated replies, timestamps, a session identifier, the page you are using and your interface language. Authorized members of our team can review feedback to understand problems and improve Bao Reader. Your browser also stores your feedback history.
Feedback replies are generated automatically by an external AI processing service, without human review before delivery. We send recent conversation messages, including their identifiers and timestamps, the current page path and your interface language to this service. Your optional contact email is not sent as a separate field, but any personal information you type into a message is included. Avoid including sensitive personal information in the chat. You can contact us by email instead.
Ordinary reading and flashcard practice do not send your learning activity to the AI processing service. We also use AI separately to help prepare learning content before publication.
Our AI provider's terms restrict using customer data to train models without permission or instruction. The provider may retain data for service operation and abuse monitoring under its applicable terms. You can contact us for details about the provider and its data handling.
Optional analytics and crash reporting
Usage analytics and crash reporting are separate, optional features. Both are disabled until you opt in. You can turn either off later in settings without losing access to learning features. Turning a feature off stops future collection; it does not itself erase previously submitted reports.
If you enable usage analytics, our usage analytics provider processes information about how you use Bao Reader, along with device or browser information and analytics identifiers, to help us understand usage and improve the service.
If you enable crash reporting, our crash diagnostics provider processes error reports, stack traces, app and device information, and installation identifiers to help us diagnose problems. These reports are not necessarily anonymous. You can contact us for information about the provider and its handling and retention of reports.
Bao Reader is free and does not display advertisements.
Technical information and storage
Our hosting and security services may process technical request information, such as IP addresses, request times, browser or device information and errors, to deliver and protect the service. Necessary operational logs are separate from optional usage analytics and crash reports.
We use cookies and device storage for sign-in, preferences and locally saved learning data. Optional analytics may use additional cookies or identifiers after you opt in. You can clear browser or device storage, although doing so may sign you out or remove local preferences and unsynchronized data.
Purposes and legal grounds
We process information to provide account and learning features, respond to feedback, maintain security and reliability, and meet applicable legal obligations. Where the applicable law requires a legal basis, we rely on providing the service under our terms for necessary account and learning processing, consent for optional analytics and crash reporting, and legitimate interests in handling feedback and protecting the service where those interests do not override your rights. We rely on legal obligations where processing is required by law.
You do not have to provide optional information. Without the information needed for an account, we cannot provide account-based synchronization. Refusing analytics or crash reporting does not prevent you from using Bao Reader.
Service providers and international processing
We use external technology providers for account authentication, cloud hosting and data storage, optional usage analytics, optional crash diagnostics, and AI processing of feedback conversations. Providers process information needed to deliver those services. Our application servers and database are hosted in Singapore. Some service providers may process information in other countries to provide authentication, AI responses, analytics, diagnostics and support. Information may therefore be processed outside Taiwan and outside your country. Where applicable law requires safeguards for international transfers, those safeguards must apply, including contractual protections where appropriate. Contact us for the identities of providers receiving your personal information and information about processing locations and safeguards relevant to your data.
We do not sell your personal information or use it for targeted advertising. We may disclose information where legally required or necessary to protect users and the service, subject to applicable law.
Retention and account deletion
We keep account and learning information while your account remains active. You can delete your account through account preferences. When you delete your account, we delete your account and all associated personal information and learning data. Account deletion is irreversible.
Feedback is submitted separately from your account and is not automatically deleted when you delete it. We keep feedback to track issues and inform improvements, without a fixed automatic deletion schedule. If your feedback contains personal information, you can request its deletion. Applicable requirements to delete personal information when it is no longer necessary still apply.
Account deletion does not require removing technical logs or diagnostic records that no longer identify you and cannot reasonably be linked back to you. We may retain those records to maintain security and diagnose technical problems. Any remaining personal information remains subject to applicable privacy rights and retention requirements. Feedback stored in your browser can be removed by clearing this site's browser data.
Your privacy rights
Depending on applicable law, you may request access to, a copy of, correction or deletion of your personal information, restrict or object to processing, or request data portability. You can withdraw consent for optional processing without affecting the lawfulness of earlier processing. You may also complain to the data protection authority responsible for your location.
Send requests to [email protected]. We may ask for information reasonably needed to verify your identity and locate the relevant records. We respond within the time required by applicable law. For feedback submitted without an account or email, identifying the conversation may require additional details from you.
Changes to this policy
We will update the date above when this policy changes. We will notify users of material changes through the service or another appropriate channel and obtain fresh consent where required before introducing a new use of information.
